Rocks, rock!

I’m interested in how the traces of life get entangled with and preserved in the sedimentary record. In particular, I want to know how organic molecules from living organisms transform into molecular fossils. This, in turn, can help us make sense of how the Earth’s current life got to where it is, and where we might be heading into the future.

I do a bunch of fun field-based observations and sampling, ranging from desert and salt flats to estuarine rivers and the open ocean. Then, a whole lot of applied geobiology comes into play!
